Bay Head Beaches took a beating with this last storm!

This last Noreaster put an even bigger beating on our beaches, dragging lots of sand into the ocean!  This was this morning at Howe Street...check out the jetty at the bottom of the steps!  I've never seen it exposed and I saw a few long-time locals that said the same thing...in 30 years!  Some nice waves rolling in though...

Eddie Would Go!

On March 17th, 1978, one of the greatest Watermen in Hawaiian history was lost... EDDIE AIKAU. He was part of a crew that was re-enacting the 2,500-mile journey, following the ancient route of the Polynesian migration between the Hawaiian and Tahitian island chains. Aikau joined the voyage as a crew member of the Hokule'a, which left the Hawaiian islands on March 16, 1978. The double-hulled voyaging canoe developed a leak in one of the hulls and later capsized about twelve miles south of the island of Molokai. In an attempt to get help and save the crew, Aikau paddled toward Lanai on his surfboard...tragically, Aikau was never seen again. The ensuing search for Aikau was the largest air-sea search in Hawaii history. Let us pay homage to a great man.

Check out this true Waterman...making the most of what God has given to him!

This is an awesome short film that I came across on a surfing forum that I go on...truely inspirational!  I figured I would pass it along.  Thank God for what you've got and don't dwell on what you don't have...live life the way it's supposed to be lived.

Really slick 70's single fin that came into the shop...super smooth Jack Meyer airbrush!

Local Manasquan legend, as well as California legend, Jack Meyer airbrushed this rad stick.  When Jack passed in January of 2007, the surfing community lost a great one!  Jack was known for his Aloha, his surfing and his style of surfboard airbrushing.  In the 70s and 80s Jack would travel the California coast and airbrush for top board manufacturers.  This is an awesome example of his work.

a stray Bolt that came into the shop...

A buddy Stan, brought this into the shop...looks a bit beat, but I think it's a real live Lopez shaped bolt!  Someone loved riding it...  Gerry's signature in the top right on the board...lightning bolt on the tail...Lopez up in the tiny bolt in the flames.

Challenger Eastern...Blue fin slider

I've got a few classics hangin in the shop...this one's a 2 stringer, blue fin cruiser made by Challenger Eastern...mid 60's in near mint condition.  This one came into my first shop maybe 10 years ago...thanks again Brian!  These beauties were made in Neptune, NJ over by Kelly's Tavern...the owner was a guy named Tinker West.  Maybe this beauty was shaped by Jim Phillips!

I recently came across a thread on Swaylocks that has some real cool history on Challenger Eastern...really worth the read!  (Challenger Eastern and Jim Phillips thread) www2.swaylocks.com/node/1028954

Because of his ties to Challenger Eastern, I asked Jim Phillips about the board...

Jim Phillips:
the serial number is really low, that makes me think it was built very early on to Tinker coming to NJ and this would have been before I was involved, but it seems to have a multiple lay up tail block, something I did not see on his boards.

Nevertheless, it is a bitchin board and the attention to detail is what steered me to what I do today
